Lehigh Trail To Close For Tree Removal

Lehigh Trail will be closed Monday, August 10, through Wednesday, August 12, to allow for the safe removal of hazardous trees located along its entirety, between Colbert Lane and U.S. Route 1.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” said Mike Orlando, Flagler County Prescribed Fire Program Supervisor. “We are trying to be as proactive as possible before the peak of hurricane season.”

Flagler County Land Management, in conjunction with the Flagler County Parks Department, has contracted a tree service to remove roughly 80 hazardous trees identified along the 5-mile section of paved trail, which stretches from the trail-head on Colbert Lane, west under Interstate 95, parallel along Royal Palms Parkway, to U.S. Route 1.

The project is expected to take three days to complete but is weather dependent.

“We regret the disruption; we know this is a very popular trail with hikers and bikers,” said Flagler County Resiliency and Resource Stewardship Manager, Tim Telfer. “This type of periodic maintenance is critical to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for the visitors and residents of Flagler County.”
